Field Line Collective is an experimental ambient project by Michael Trepagnier and Brandon Birdwell.
At its center is sound manipulation — that's the part Michael leans into fully. Brandon brings structure to it, an instinct for where a piece needs to go. Together, the music is through-composed and improvised, built from sounds the two of them have built or generated themselves, including handmade cassette tape loops.
There's one rule: no laptops. Nothing plays back holistically. Whatever happens is hand-built in the room — live playing, pre-recorded pieces triggered by hand, sounds made for that moment and no other. There's usually someone playing something real — guitar, piano — while everything else reacts and builds around it. Other musicians and artists are invited in to perform within these shifting environments too.
The result is wandering, beautiful, and strange.
